Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The landing strip is about 100 yards to the North. The industrial park and railroad yard about 200 yards to the South and a convenient truck stop about 300 yards to the East. Ahhhh, it’s good to be home…well sort of. We are in Valparaiso, Indiana for 3 Sundays. One of our friends offered to let us park the bus (home) on some property next to the airport. It is great. I have a strong broadband signal and full hook-ups. Who could ask for anything more?
Many came up to us after the services to tell us how challenged and encouraged they were because of the songs and preaching of the word. We are encouraged also to know the Good News continues when CD’s are purchased. Most encouraging to our hearts is the sponsorship of World Vision children. We know the Lord is lifted up around the world through these sponsorships. We pray that God will open more people’s hearts to this much-needed ministry. The Lord has blessed us with safe miles and good concerts.
*Ephesians 2:8-10
“8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
The Lord gave Lydia a unique opportunity to minister after one of our concerts. Two young ladies, one just graduated and the other in college seemed drawn to her. They just kept starring at her and hanging on every word as if Lydia was some “Rock Star”. Lydia was praying, “Lord, don’t let me blow this opportunity to minister to these girls”. She shared some familiar scriptures, John 3:16 and *Eph 2: 8-9 & 10, as these girls were guests at this evangelical church. One girl had been raised Catholic. Lydia and the girls had great discussion on what it means to be saved according to God’s Word and how we can’t add anything to what Christ did when he died on the cross for our sins. She went on to explain that the difference between knowing Christ and knowing about Christ is having a relationship with Him and where works come in. Lydia was assured that they had a relationship with Christ before they parted. She also shared a small dissertation on dating and marrying only believers, as she couldn’t help herself after raising two daughters.
Here is a slice of life – A typical Sunday (June 14)
We arrive at the church on Saturday to set up and make sure the equipment is working. We go over the order of the service choosing praise songs and how much time I have to preach. Program the laptop and now it is time to practice. Sunday 6:00 a.m. fill the water tank on the bus for a shower. Make sure the bus is plugged in so we have power to keep the refrigerator running. By 7:30, Lydia is frantically trying to get ready for the 8:00 service. During the 8:00 service, the sound system that worked 100% Saturday is barely audible. It kicks in suddenly and startles everyone! I am hoping the people on the front rows are hard of hearing, if not they are now. Nevertheless, Praises are lifted to the Lord, the Word is preached. For the 10:30 service, the sound system works well and Doug seems a little more relaxed as he preaches on the power of Jesus’ name. The pastor invites people to put their trust in Jesus as Doug sings “Come Unto Jesus”. After Selling CDs and sponsoring World Vision Children, someone takes us to lunch, yea! Fortunately, today we are not rushed and break down and load equipment after lunch. Doug lifts the soundboard today by himself, instead of waiting for help and pulls his back, which will hurt all week.
